Early use of moisturisers prevents eczema

March 13, 2015 8:11 am

A recent study showed that if infants had emollients or moisturisers applied to their skin from 3 weeks of age, they were far less likely to develop eczema by 6 months of age. This involved full-body application of simple emollients at least once daily. The skin barrier enhancement protected against allergen sensitisation and subsequent eczema in high allergy risk infants. It was noted that this is a safe, cheap and feasible intervention.
