Cashew Nut Allergy

June 2, 2014 12:29 pm

Cashew nut allergy.

Cashew nut anaphylaxis appears to be the second most common nut allergy after peanut (actually a legume) and there is a strong cross-reactivity between cashew and pistachio nut. Nut allergic people are seldom only allergic to one nut. Some may only be allergic to cashew and pistachio while others may only be allergic to pecan and walnuts. The fx1 nut screening test  provided by Phadia (now Thermo-Fisher) does not include cashew, pecan, walnut or pistachio and only includes peanut, brazil nut, almond, hazelnut and coconut. So beware using this nut allergy screen to exclude all nut allergies.
